As a note to those for whom the title is confusing, a cartographer is a map maker, and temporal means that it has to do with time. Incidentally, the front cover is a photograph of the inside of the Monument to the Great Fire of London in central London. The spiral staircase consists of 311 6" steps and the tower reaches to 202ft (61m). It was built by Sir Christopher Wren to commemorate the great fire of London in 1666. The fire apparently started in a baker's shop in the extinct Pudding Lane, which used to be 202ft away. Surprisingly only 6 people were known to have died in the Great Fire, and in fact it is credited with purging the city of the Black Death-carrying rats which had killed 20% of the population just one year before.
