Aleah Sato
Aleah Sato grew up in the cornfields and forests of Southern Indiana, where she started writing poems at age 10. Now living in Toronto, she dreams of faraway places and welcomed strangeness.
Her first official book, Badlands, a collection of poems, explores the darkest dreams and fantasies of women. The work spans 7 years of road stories no polite woman would repeat.
In winter 2006-07, another collection will officially be birthed, and an anthology is slated for 2007. Come back for updates!

Badlands
"In Badlands, an alternate world is created for the feminine to express itself. Eve, evil mothers, mythic figures, vampires and women looking for trouble/looking to be born/looking to give birth all inhabit this surreal dark land. All get a chance to tell their stories and recount their dreams. Each poem explores a different aspect of the repressed feminine, whether it is an attraction to violence and degradation, a distaste for our children, repulsion with the birthing process, or world-destroying anger.
Her verse is twisted and surreal, gorgeous and painful. She takes our hand and leads us on journey through the badlands where we are caressed, transformed, beaten and kissed.
