This verite documentary follows three young composers (Judd Greenstein, David T Little, and Missy Mazzoli) and two music ensembles (NEWSPEAK and NOW Ensemble) as they set out to redefine what "new music" can be. The film's intimate and kinetic style captures the unique moment in these artists' lives when they are figuring out not only what they want their music to be, but also how and where they want to present it. By taking their performances out of traditional concert halls and into the clubs and bars of New York, they are making a bold bid to find new audiences and success on their own terms. In many ways, this documentary is the familiar story of the American band trying to 'make it', but it takes place against a musical backdrop unlike anything you've ever heard before.
