Luna has just been assigned a challenging school project: to find the most incredible characteristic about being a girl and then present it to her class.
Luna races home to ask for advice from her mother, who suggests she do her project on an experience that Luna shares with other girls all around the world: menstruation. As she summons the courage to talk to other girls and women from various cultures about their first period, she embarks on an exciting journey that will change her life forever.
“A beautiful book that gives young girls an inspiring introduction to the subject of getting your first period.”
– LARA OWEN, author of Her Blood Is Gold: Awakening to the Wisdom of Menstruation

05/05/2014This is a beautifully illustrated book that takes any reader on a journey around the world, albeit that she is riding her bike around her own town. It gathers together different positive beliefs around a girls first period and combines with a recognition of multi-culturism and various beliefs. This is a great book for any families bookshelf. My 8 year old really enjoyed it.

04/02/2014A MUST HAVE BOOK IN EVERY HOME, SCHOOL, LIBRARY, PLAYGROUP. This book helps breack the ice about Menstruation and Menarche through a positive and well written story combined with beautiful illustrations that make you feel you are part of the story. THIS IS OUR CHANCE AS PARENTS / FRIENDS / CARERS / TEACHERS to teach us and our children that Menstruation and Menarche are something to look forward positively, with love and excitement. CONGRATULATIONS Jac and Erin-Claire.

03/02/2014This is a great read, and so needed! It is so necessary! I love the fact that the protagonist is an 8 year old girl - just like my daughter. We both love the colourful range of ways that cultures celebrate menarche (your first period) around the world, set in an engaging, readable story. I am now using it in my Celebration Day for Girls workshops, where we inform and warmly welcome young girls to the wonderful world of cycling within.

02/02/2014A picture book which successfully presents a positive, alternative perception of menarche --- a subject which remains a largely taboo. The story is well told and vividly illustrated.

02/02/2014A beautifully illustrated children's book that seeks to help children of all genders to reconceptualise menache and mensturation as something to embrace and celebrate rather than to hide from and be ashamed of. The positive message of the story will hopefully allow children and their parents broach in an open manner an important topic which may have otherwise been uncomfortable or taboo for them.
