Blackbird Crow Raven
It was said of Mark Twain that he wrote autobiographical fiction and a fictional autobiography.
Perhaps similarly (after a fashion), I write two types of books:
1) Hilariously funny (if I do say so myself) but fundamentally very serious novels
-and-
2) Serious nonfiction that is fun and lively, not dry (if I do say so myself).
The best example of the former are the "Warble McGorkle" books (especially "the Zany Time Travels of Warble McGorkle"), and the latter is exemplified in "Still Casting Shadows: A Shared Mosaic of U.S. History," my two-volume social/cultural/family history of the United States, from 1620-2006.

the Zany Time Travels of Warble McGorkle
Warble McGorkle and his entourage travel back in time to alter history. Their meddling in Revolutionary Times, at Custer's Last Stand, the Alamo, Woodstock, as well as a detour to 1st century Jerusalem to kidnap Jesus--or Judas--leads to catastrophic consequences for those living in modern times. Among the things Warble and his gang perpetrate are: 1. The origin of Preemptive Strikes (umpires calling strikes before the ball is thrown) 2. George Washington being banished to England for inventing the peanut (and thus being responsible for "Peanut Envy") 3. Changing song lyrics and altering drugs at Woodstock to change the politics and personalities of the hippies there 4. "Helping out" at the Alamo, so that it's the Mexicans who ultimately get "saddled" with Texas. These are just a few of the hilarious shenanigans that culminate in a climactic scene as the protagonists return to the present and see what their changes have wrought.

the Wacky Misadventures of Warble McGorkle
In "the Wacky Misadventures of Warble McGorkle," Warble Poundcake McGorkle "ascends" from irresponsible dreamer to President of the United States. "Wacky Warble" is a picaresque satire that, through the protagonist's zany antics, pokes fun at the 'get rich quick' and 'get rich by any means possible' philosophies prevalent in today's society. Warble McGorkle considers himself a genius. In reality, he is a jumble-headed, paranoid megalomaniac. Warble and his wife Mary crisscross the U.S.A. at breakneck speed, as Warble endeavors to stay one step ahead of pursuers (most of them imaginary). Everywhere he and Mary go, Warble concocts a cockamamie scheme to get fabulously rich and to propel himself to the pinnacle of society, where his fame--so he reasons, anyway--will make him safe from the forces supposedly arrayed against him. In the end, he finds that being President is not all that it's cracked up to be.

Still Casting Shadows: A Shared Mosaic of U.S. History Vol. I, 1620-1913
"Still Casting Shadows: A Shared Mosaic of U.S. History" breaks with tradition by presenting a holistic (rather than a white-centric and politician-dominated) portrayal of American History. It begins with the arrival of the “Puritans” at Plymouth, Massachusetts, and follows the descendants of two Mayflower passengers, John Howland and Elizabeth (Tilley) Howland, forward to the present day.
Along the way, events as wide-ranging as colonial-era Indian battles, the defense of Little Round Top at Gettysburg during the Civil War, a devastating ambush in Vietnam, and a heroic deed by a California Highway Patrol officer are examined from the personal perspective of those on the scene.
Much more than simply a volume of family history, “Still Casting Shadows” is a concise outline of American history. As such, it includes hundreds of short chapters that cover upwards of a thousand events of national import. Each chapter begins with striking quotations that illuminate the events being discussed.

PROFILES IN CORRUPTION: Liars, Thieves, Traitors, Adulterers, and Murderers in the White House
"PROFILES IN CORRUPTION: Liars, Thieves, Traitors, Adulterers and Murderers in the White House" can be utilized in several ways: It can be read from cover to cover; it can be used as a reference (the presidents appear in chronological order, from George Washington to George W. Bush); it can be used in a classroom setting to introduce an overview of historical information as it relates to the presidents, incite further research, and provoke discussion; it can be used as a source for presidential “trivia” -- the final sections contain dozens of multiple-choice questions related to the Presidents as well as several charts and tables showing presidential "statistics" relative to the chief executives' personal circumstances and traits, states of origin, as well as a timeline showing who lived when and in relation to which key events.
