Judging a book by its cover isn’t such a bad idea after all

1 min read

The saying goes, “don’t judge a book by its cover,” but that old adage was crafted before our new Lulu Cover Wizard came about. Now, Lulu has made it easier than ever to create a professional cover for your book, without the cost that comes along with a professional designer.

A great book cover can open doors for your book, and the new Lulu Cover Wizard provides our creators with the tools to get noticed. The new Lulu Cover Wizard is entirely browser based, so there is no need to download any software. It also auto-calculates the dimensions of your book to ensure a proper full-bleed print.  There are various themes, colors, and fonts to choose from, and you even have the option to use your own personal or professional Fotolia images for your book cover. And, when you sign up with Fotolia through Lulu, receive special discounts, too.

The interface is intuitive and the tools are easy to use which allows for quicker cover creation. The expanded feature set and enhanced photo capabilities encourage you to show your creative side. It’s truly never been easier to create a great book cover.

If you created your book cover with the older Cover Designer, don’t worry – you can still try out the new Lulu Cover Wizard by revising your project. If you decide you prefer the older Cover Designer, it’s still available to use.

We at Lulu are happy to provide the tools necessary to empower you to become the world’s next best selling author!

The problem is it doesn’t work. It won’t let you change fields, it’s slow as hell and it won’t let you swap to the old cover maker either. In other words, its much worse than its predecessor.

  2. Hi Christopher,

Some people have said they are having trouble when using IE, but that will be fixed very soon. Until then, the Lulu site works best with Firefox, which can be downloaded for free here: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/

    Best wishes!

  3. Hi Christopher,
As of this morning the issues with the new Cover Wizard have been fixed.

I have been trying to secure information on how to publish with LuLu Publishing to no avail. Could you send me publishing information as soon as possible.

I too found the cover Wizard unworkable using Safari.
I do not choose to switch to FireFox. In my opinion, it should work with the browser that comes with my computer.

As long as I can continue to upload my own .jpg covers, I am content.

Ms Housel, does ‘one piece cover’ refer to what your company uses on paperbacks or only for hardbacks? A 6×9 perfect bound from your company would have what ‘type’ of cover?

    Thank you.

I started using my cover wizard fine…but now….it won’t even open, no matter how many times I click on it….what’s the problem?
