This is a joke, right? You guys bought the most toxic domain name in terms of poetry scams and are seriously marketing it?
why is there an error message when you go to submit your poem?
I’ve reviewed the service. Not entirely positive:
http://www.selfpublishingreview.com/2009/04/15/this-is-why-self-publishing-isn%E2%80%99t-taken-seriously/
Julie,
Yes, Lulu did by the domain name, poetry.com, but not the business behind it. We are trying take a site with an admittedly unsavory reputation and change it for the better by removing the toxic elements and focusing on building a community for poets. What you see now is just the first version of Lulu Poetry, and we will continue to add features and improve the site. We hope to build a real community for poets that will have the resources they need to become successful and have a great time doing it.
Lakeya,
What error message are you receiving? Please send any support questions to help@poetry.com
Thanks,
Nick
Self-Publishing Review,
We appreciate your feedback, and all I can really say is to reiterate that this is just the first iteration of Lulu Poetry and we will be continuously working on improving the site. Ultimately, our focus is on providing a benefit to the poetry community, and we will certainly be considering your feedback.
Thanks,
Nick
While I don’t mean to be nitpicky…well, yes, I do actually. Only two poems posted so far for the contest. One had several typos plus misuse of (or lack of) appropriate apostrophes. Lack of punctuation is fine–e.e. cummings did it so well. And I’ll leave my comment at that; my opinion anyway.
One thing you could do to legitimize your site is pay me the $1,000 prize I never got for my poem Baymen, which was the September ’08 monthly winner.
I’m not holding my breath.

@Michael Congratulations on winning the contest last year. Unfortunately, Lulu.com and Lulu Poetry are not affiliated in any way with the former owners of http://www.poetry.com, Watermark Media who have gone out of business, or their contest. We recommend that you contact them regarding any prize money you are still owed.
We are committed to the new contest on Lulu Poetry, however. Our prizes going forward will be paid on time each month, and we look forward to seeing great entries from the community.
@mervyn I’m sorry that you have run into an error uploading your poem, but thank you for letting us know. We will do our best to track down the issue and get it fixed.
@Barb We’ve actually had over 1500 poems uploaded since our launch on Tuesday, which is a great response. Please be picky, though! We only want the best to win the contest.
The winners will be selected from the highest rated poems on the site. The best way to ensure your favorites win is to give them a good rating, and encourage your friends to do the same.
How do I go about getting my poetry and name removed from poetry.com? After I learned more about the site, I wasn’t happy about having it posted there in the first place, and now it shows up when I do a Google search on my name. Can you tell me who to contact?
Thanks.
Lulupoetry is great! I published my BEST of POETRY through their services…

Julie,
Yes, Lulu did by the domain name, poetry.com, but not the business behind it.
Nick you say you never bought the business behind it – then why is one of the poems I sumitted to Poetry.Com on your lulu.com website – I have not been asked for my permission, nor have I been contacted other than to let me know people can vote for my poem. yet there it is on your website – me thinks you think that us little sheeple cant put 2 and 2 together and come up with a correct 4 – well newsflash – we are not all as stupid as you would like to think. My poem supposedly also won at Poetry.com but my prize was never received – I get the sneaking suspicion that it will be the same with this one – or rather than pay us to publish our peotry (as any respectable publisher would do) you will expect us to purchase a collection of poems in which mine will feature in the first page – but only in my copy (even though any normal publisher would send you one gratis as they featured your work). So when will I be contacted to be asked for my permission for lulu.com to use my poetry on this site? and if you didnt buy the business behind Poetry.com then how in the name of sheba did you get your hands on MY WORK??
@W Please email removal-request@poetry.com.. They will help you get your content removed from the site.
@ami I’m glad you like it!
@Charlotte Lulu bought the website domain and was able to keep some of the content posted, like poems and reference materials, in an effort to create a positive experience for poetry.com users. However, we did not purchase the businesses behind the site, like Publish Today or Noble House Books, which are the companies who published the poetry anthologies.
Your poem is still available to read and rate on the site, because you uploaded it (or submitted it by mail) and agreed to the terms at that time. However, we understand that the site and terms have changed now and we are happy to remove your poem if you no longer wish to post it. Please send us an email to removal-request@poetry.com with your name, email and poem title, and we will get it removed as soon as possible, but it unfortunately a manual process which can take up to 5-10 business days. We are currently working on improving this as we continue to develop the site.
I can’t really comment on how the previous owners ran their business, but I’m sorry that you had a bad experience. Lulu has no intention of producing anthologies like you describe, but we do offer a lot of tools to help authors self publish, if you would like to create a book of your poems. If you choose to do so you will control the content of the book, keep all of the rights to your work and decide how much money you want to make off of each sale.
Hi Nick,
I tried contacting the email address you listed. They sent back an immediate automated response saying someone would help me in a day or two. A week later, after hearing nothing in response, I wrote again. I got the exact same rote response, same ticket number and everything back again as a response. Several more days have now passed, and I have heard nothing.
My poetry remains on your website. I have no confidence anyone will ever contact me. Can you tell me who I can contact (actual human being) so I can begin the process of having my work removed? I know Lulu claims to want to run this site legitimately now, but so far, I feel like it’s just as bad, if not worse, than the old site.
Thanks
yes i think they stole my poem here a couple weeks ago, inside his self seemed to diappear of the web page
Nick – I am also trying to get my poem removed from the http://www.poetry.com website. I have e-mailed; removal-request@poetry.com TWICE and have received an automated response both times saying I will be contacted in 1-2 business days. Almost 2 weeks have passed and I still have not been contacted. Please advise! Are there any other measures I could take to finally have the poem removed?
@ed I’m not sure I understand. Are you saying your poem was removed from the site?
@Liumah Can you email me (my contact information is in my profile) your name (as it appears on the site), your poem titles and your mailing address?
Thanks,
Nick
Does Lulu have full ownership of the rights to the poem you submit? If I wanted to publish the poem with another company or independantly, how would I do that? Could I do that? Do I lose rights to my work?
@Mason You keep all of our rights and you can publish your poem wherever you choose to.
When filling in the form to submit a poem. it would not accept my Email address: it kept saying it was in the wrong format – even when I cut and pasted it from the original.
Then I discovered another form on a different page of your website: same questions but different format. This time it accepted my Email address straight away and I was able to send my poem to you. However I can’t find this alternate form again.
I need help! I had a poem published on the Poetry.com website in 1995 called ‘Park Bench’ I couldn’t afford to buy the book I was offered at the time and would like to buy it now if possible.
Thanks, Pamela
Joan,
I’m sorry to hear you are having trouble. I recommend emailing help@poetry.com.
Pamela,
Unfortunately, we are not publishing the books that the old company used to do. I would recommend compiling your poems into your own book using Lulu.com.
So Im wondering why if you guys didnt by the business behind poetry.com why am I still seeing their old logo and being told that my poem is being “considered” for the hardbound coffee edition? Am I going to still get a letter in the mail for buying the book? Those same letters that made me angry? If you think about it and my poem is being considered for an actual book and I was published then wouldn’t i get one for free?
Jason,
We have not sent out any letters like the one you describe or used the poetry.com logo since April 14th, when we officially launched Lulu Poetry.
Nick-
I have changed my e-mail address and went
to the old poetry.com website to update my
info, but I cannot find anywhere to do so.
I have several poems listed that have been published in anthologies- some have also been archived. Could you help me please update/transfer these poems to the lulu site?
Some may also be listed under Eleanore Lindelof. Thank You-el
Elie,
To update your email address you should be able to go to our advanced registration page: http://www.poetry.com/premium/login.asp
There you can log in using your old email address and zip code. You should then be able to update your account information with your new email address.
Have unsuccessfully attempted to submit poem from your website.
When I click Submit, I receive a message indicating wrong format.
My previous submissions have been made by post to a Queensland Australia address.
May I please have a postal address for submissions, or a solution to the format problem.
I am looking forward to LULU poetry.
I am from poets.com. I am looking forward to the new experience.LULU poetry here we come.
The poets are ready to go.
with great love and respect, Quarter Moon
When will the results of lulu poetry competition be announced?
Nick,
I have the same request as Liumah and W***: I have written several times to removal-request@poetry.com since March, when I discovered that two poems which I have sent in 2001(!) were recently published without my permission. I’m only receiving automated messages promising to remove my poems in 6-8 days and I’m really unhappy about it.
Please advise how much longer i need to wait, since I am seriously considering hiring a lawyer to get your companies’ attention.
M.
I checked again today and it appears you have removed my poems. I was expecting a notification email, but thank you anyway!!!
M.
I was quite excited when I came across this website. Then I had some technical problems. I tried emailing my issues, the reply was prompt but it was an automated reply to wait for a reply. then many days have gone and nothing. How do we what the
ratings are for our own poems. Or which are the poems for the day. Everything looks so shady.
Dear Sir:
I have many poems that I had published (actually they appeared in every one of their anthologies, although I purchased only one of them), under the “old management” of the http://www.poetry.com website.
I used several alternative names (pseudonyms), as well, for some of my work. I was afraid that I had lost all of my work, when the site was sold to Lulu; but, I am happy to have seen that at least some of my poetry has been archived.
Please let me know how to “log into” your new website. Navigating your pages seems quite difficult, to me.
NOTE: The e-mail address (and the password that I used with the old website) is different from the e-mail address that I have just now given, in your Post-A-Comment requirements.
Please let me know how to log in and if I can do so, using my old log-in information.
Respectfully and professionally,
Mr. D. JOHN FARE
Recently Lulu poetry has stopped recognizing my e-mail address and therefore I am unable to edit my poems. I have tried all the help sites you have suggested to others. None have worked. Please help.
I have received my book with my Poem in. I never thought I would ever see it.
So thank you Poetry .com for sending it to me.
Pauline Mary Keown
I logged in today and saw a notice that my poem cannot be edited, as it’s being considered for a hardbound anthology.
I am wondering what that means. I mean – what percentage of submitted poems are considered for the anthology?
Anne,
Unfortunately, this is the result of an issue with the integration of the old poetry.com database with ours. We are working on resolving the issue, but it may be awhile before we can get the matter resolved. I apologize for the inconvenience. We do not have any intention of publishing anthologies like the old site did.
Regards,
Nick Popio
I entered a poem in your free contest yesterday (June 29th) around 3 p.m. Got a notice saying it wouldn’t appear (if accepted) for 24 hrs.
I’m trying to find it now to see if anyone has rated it. How do I go about doing this? Also, since it’s the last day of June, can I enter the same poem in July’s poetry contest?
Thanks!
Evalou
Nick,
On Monday, July 13, 2009, I left you a voice mail message with my phone number to remove my name and all of my poems on lulu.com.
I also emailed “removal-request@poetry.com” twice to remove my name and all of my poetry immediately. All I have received back are two automated emails from “System User” at “Lulu Enterprises, Inc.”
My name and all of my poems were posted on Lulu.com poetry web site without my permission. What will it take to remove my name and all of my poems?
I WANT MY NAME AND ALL OF MY POEMS REMOVED IMMEDIATELY.
I WONDER IF YOU CAN ASSIST?
Sincerely,
Robin
Robin,
We are working hard to allow users to directly remove, and have greater control over, their poetry on the site. Unfortunately, as a result we have had to suspend the editing and removal of poems for the next few weeks. If you would like to email me at npopio@lulu.com with your poem title(s), then I will try to get your poem removed before then, but it should be completed by the end of the month. ‘m sorry for the delay, and I appreciate your patience.
Regards,
Nick Popio
I have also contacted several emails, trying to get my poem and name removed. I have sent the poem 10 years ago, and never gave them a right to add my full name online.
I have waited for over a month now, not receiving any kind of a reply.
Like you “M”, and several people on another forum, I am also seriously considering hiring a lawyer. If that’s what it’s going take for them to REMOVE A SIMPLE POEM FROM THEIR WEBSITE, then so be it.
Sonia,
Please see my message to Robin above. I have added your poem to the list to be removed, and I will try to get it removed as soon as possible.
Regards,
Nick
Nick,
I sent you an email with a list of all my poems posted on Lulu.com poetry web site. As promised, please remove all of my poems, my name and any other information about me.
Also, please remove the same information from Google Cached web site pages.
I already checked with Google and only the web site host (lulu.com) can remove them.
Sincerely,
Robin
Robin,
I have added you to our list of poems to be manually removed. As I have mentioned above, I cannot promise they will be removed prior to the next release, but I will try to get them removed as soon as possible.
Regards,
Nick
Nick,
Good Luck with your new venture! I had a number of poems transfered to Lulu, as of yet, I have not had any problems. Although, I have not yet submitted any new poems.
There is on question though, will you be printing those poetry pocket cards?
K. Dale
Nick,
I began writing in 2003, and had over 325 poems posted on http://www.poets.com. I requested and lulu confirmed that all of my poems would be transferred to Lulu’s new site. As of yet, only three of my poems appear there, and THEY came from poetry.com (a completely different site that I had not visitied in some time). I have sent several requests to Lulu for help and have received no response. I am distressed that all of my work has been lost. Can you help? I just don’t believe that God has brought me this far in my craft to have so much of it destroyed by this transition. Thank you in advance for your assitance.
Arkay Evans
I sent a request to have all of my poems removed quite a while ago, but I have yet to see any changes made.
I would appreciate it if you would remove my poems and name from your website and from the Google cached pages as soon as possible.
Arkay,
What site were your poems on? Poets.com?
Kelley,
I’m sorry you’ve had to wait so long. We are working hard to allow users to directly remove, and have greater control over, their poetry on the site. Unfortunately, as a result we have had to suspend the editing and removal of poems for the next few weeks. If you send me the titles of your poetry, then I will try to have it removed before then, but it should be completed by August 12th. I appreciate your patience.
Regards,
Nick Popio
Nick,
My poems were listed on poets.com.
Thanks in advance for ANY assistance you can provide!
I can’t remove the poem myself, even if you upgrade your website, because I sent the poem to you when I was 12 years old, TEN YEARS AGO! I’ve never received any passwords!
It’s only you who can remove the poem from your website! I suggest you do that as soon as possible. You can’t add people’s full names to your website withouth their permission, and then not to do anything about it, when you are asked to take them off.
I have talked with a lawyer about this. I have also talked with other people who are in the same situation as me, and they’re all just as fed up with this as I am.
First I was promised MY FULL NAME will be removed from the website end of July. Nothing happened. Now I received a new email that says it will be removed in mid-August. I hope you realise mid-august means 15-17th August 2009. I am waiting until that time. If nothing happens then, there will be onsequences.
Sonia,
If you will provide me with your full name and the titles of the poems (either here or you can email me directly at npopio@lulu.com) then I will try to get your poems removed and/or renamed (whichever you prefer) before the release.
Regards,
Nick
I have already done that a month ago, and my poem and name is still there and I keep getting these same responses.
But I can do that again.
What exactly do you have to go through to get a poem removed from your website? Or a name that you have absolutely no permission to use?
Sonia,
I apologize. Without your last name, I didn’t realize I had dealt with you before. I just checked our site and your poem was removed from our system on 7/21. Are you still seeing it? If so, can you send me a link?
Regards,
Nick
I am LaShawnie Stewart and I am wndering when will Ii receive my money and prixe for my poem, I got a letter long time ago saying I won the contest. I b=never received anything! I just recently found out my poem was on line and ci=opyrighted. Please get back to me on this matter!
How can I put this without offending someone? I find it hard to believe that Lulu actually publishes anything. Most of the entries that I have read are average at best best,on a high school level;lacking in structure, content, and insight. If I were seriously pursuing publication for my works,I would look elsewhere. Perhaps I’m confused,is this a blog website? If not, it appears to me like misrepresentation abloom somewhere out there in Lulu Land.
I am sorry poetry.com, went away, as my experience, with them was alright, over many years. They did a lot of good, for me, and other, aspiring poets. I have no problems, with Lulupoetry.com , keeping my poems, on your site. Some other, wannabe poets, are insane, wanting to remove, their poetry. You are lucky, anyone will publish your poetry, anywhere. Good luck, and God Bless, Chris
I entered one of my poems and I just received a thank you note. I have not heard
anything else so far. I just want to know my status. Thank You.
Dear Sir
Your website gives every appearance of being a simple scam. Or so it did, under the previous regime.
It was particularly galling, when I composed and submitted a strict sonnet, then to find that this was reproduced on the Website with no regard at all for the indentations. If you really read this and personally reply, I am genuinely prepared to be impressed.
Yours sincerely
Lindsay G H Hall
Lindsay,
I’m sorry there were issues with the indentations on your poem. You should be able to now edit your poems on the site. I hope this helps.
Now I am depressed. I used the old http://www.poetry.com as an online archive, and just realised that my hard drive copies have been lost.
On August 14th, 2009, I was able to search the old archives and find my name to retrieve a poem, “Amidst the Chaos”, but tonight I got redirected to the LuLu site and am unable to get to the old archives.
I tried the recommended method to “Claim” my old id, but to no avail. I did leave a message at your help e-mail.
Here’s hoping someone can help. Otherwise about 30 poems have flown into the deepest regions of the cyber-wastelands.
Nicholas,
I’m sorry that you are having trouble searching for your work. With over 14 million poems on Lulu Poetry, our search obviously gives you wide range of results. We do want readers to be able to find lots of poems on Lulu Poetry, but of course we want it to be simple to find specific poems too. This is just the first step in our new search, and we will be refining and improving it over the coming weeks.
In the meantime, I am happy to help you find your poems. Can you tell me what the full name you would have listed them under was?
I HAVE TRIED THE WHOLE CLAIM YOUR ACCOUNT THING AND I CANNOT DO IT BECAUSE MY OLD EMAIL ADDRESS I USED FOR POETRY.COM DOES NOT EXIST ANYMORE! I LOST 70 POEMS THAT I MUST HAVE RECOVERED!!! I AM WORKING ON A BOOK AND THOSE POEMS ARE SO IMPORTANT TO MY LIFE. MY OLD EMAIL ADDRESS FOR POETRY.COM WAS SOBERSUN925@AOL.COM MY FULL NAME IS CHRISTOPHER ANDREW CAMERA. MOST POEMS ARE JUST UNDER CHRISTOPHER CAMERA. PLEASE EMAIL ME AT MY NEW EMAIL ADDRESS AT SURF4KIX726@AOL.COM TO RESOLVE THIS. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED! THANK YOU NICK
Christopher,
I apologize for the inconvenience. I have emailed you and am happy to help you get your account set up again.
On Nov. 14,2008 I sent poetry.com $67.95 to publish my poem “Memories of Our Darkest Day” and I ordered a book and a wooden plaque with marble finish. My check was cashed last year but I have yet to receive my book or my plaque and frankly I am getting tired of waiting on it. I would like the book and plaque I paid for or my money returned. I have been very patient. What can I do to get my book and plaque or my money returned. My number at poetry.com is VIP
P8435468 then this Lulu sent me an email that it had taken over poetry.com and gave me a reference number:ref:00D56zQ6.50056id8D:ref and a case number 00268029
Iam very tired of waiting for something I paid for a year ago and want my items or my money back. I will be waiting to hear from you. Thank you very much.
Pastricia,
Lulu did purchase the domain poetry.com but not the business behind it. Lulu.com and Lulu-Poetry are not affiliated in any way with the former owners of http://www.poetry.com, Watermark Media, who have gone out of business, or their publishing endeavors. We recommend you contact them about any outstanding orders.
Mr. Poppio,
Are my poems still copyrighted under my own name as they were when under the Poetry.com site? When I opened each page and saw my poems, none of them contained the copyright line bearing my name. Please let me know. Thank you.
Kimberly,
I apologize for any confusion. Yes, you retain the copyright for all of your poems.
Nick,
where are my poems? I have asked for a transfer of the poems and my old Pen Name to this site. I am being stonewalled why is that?
Thomas,
Can you email the full name your poems were published under and the titles of any that you can remember to me at npopio@lulu.com? I will try to help you find them.
I am having difficulty uploading a poem to enter the contest. I keep getting a system error. What can I do.
Patricia,
Can you tell me what operating system and internet browser you are using?
I just wanted to know if they, like poetry.com, protected the works of the authors with copyright?
Get it together, post a spot to show all of the poets work that is listed on lulu. poetry.com had that link.they also had a phone line. I wrote ‘The Thousand Yard Stair” and “The Real Decoy” and I would like to see the “other poems by the artist” link re-installed. Dig it Daddy-O?, as us poets say it…Steve Androff (US Army) Ret.
Hi Nick, Steve Androff here. Goggle mine or Patty Androff’s name and see who we are. Then put 2+2 together and you can guess what’s up with my poem story/movie. I cough poetry.com taking down “The Real Decoy” poem and had it re-posted. This is a sneak look at the theme song for that picture. Put up a link that simply guides the browser to the artist work by just their names. Easy as pie!
Zandra,
Yes you keep your copyright on all poetry you post to poetry.com.
Steve,
I appreciate your feedback and will make sure the engineers hear it. I agree that a “Other poems by this artist” link would be extremely valuable.
Yes, I’m having difficulty getting to Lulu.poetry. For the past 12 hours the site has been broken.
Also, I have to question the sites wisdom by allowing contestants and their friends to vote both for themselves and against their fellow contestants in the process to dermine which poems are to be judged for cash prizes.
Timothy,
I apologize for any inconvenience. Are you still having difficulty getting to the site? I just checked and it seems to be loading fine on my end.
Hi, I have been trying to get into this poem site for a few days now (trying to view my poems, I have also reviewed over a hundred poems)& I can’t even load the page anymore… Are you working on the site? I was wondering maybe this could be stopping the page from loading…
Thank You
Bev
Please help
I am trying to access my poems under Megan P Codd and Megan Codd on your website.
Originally on poetry.com. They were on your website and now I am not able to acces them….please please help.
Is it possible for you to send these to my e mail address………please!
Please tell me what to do about getting my poetry back from lulu. I have one old poem from poetry.com whch I am unable to find. I entered a poem last month in your contest (said to be done 02/11). I want to get my poems back from your site, but your site seems to not be able to find me in any way. It als keeps saying there are no records for my email. How Do I get my poetry including all rights and royalties from your site.?
I have email you directly, and also the help adress I’ve read here.
I am looking for my son’s poetry!!!! His name is CHRISTOPHER ANDREW CAMERA. Where is it? Where has it gone to? It was on here after it was lost from poetry.com, but now it is lost AGAIN! What is going on here?!!!
I submitted a few poems 19yrs ago and found them on on google search. I want to know how to remove them or at least change my name.
sorry 10yrs ago
I need to know how to delete poems I sent in about 7yrs ago. They are still on the site and show up on a google search, I do not want this. I no longer have the email I submitted them with, but I need them removed!
I had poems posted on your former site, poetry.com. I cant access the site anymore. Pls help.
Emeka Ohabuike
Bev,
Are you still having trouble?
Megan,
I have emailed you a link to the poems I was able to find.
Kaela and Emeka,

I am happy to help you find your poetry. Please tell me the full name they were posted under and the titles of any that you can remember.
Anita,
I have sent you an email with a link to your son’s poetry. I hope this helps.
New,
If you can email me the the full name they were posted under and the titles of any that you can remember then I will help you get them removed and/or change your name.
Personally, I would love to use your service, to create small poetry books for my work.. But WHERE IS MY WORK?
You have jeopardized the work of millions of people by this poorly managed conversion..
I seriously Hope you take that into consideration and are able to consolidate and recover peoples work.

I have asked you numerous times where my work is and still nothing back.I have also read other peoples comments about their work being lost.I printed every poem I entered into your website and have the copy rights to all of my work so I better not see any of my work published without my permission.I have also notified thousands of other poets of the poor service of Lulu poetry.
Dear Nick,
I wrote to you several months ago, with no responce, to date! Are you planning to print “Pocket Cards,” like your predicessor did? I hope so, as I currently have a poem on your site, that I would love to have made into Cards! I feel this particular poem would help many people! Please get back to me!

I apologize that I didn’t respond to you previously. We currently do not have any plans to offer “Pocket Cards”. However, you might consider publishing some of your poems in one of our minibooks on Lulu http://www.lulu.com/publish/photo_books/3.75×2.5_wallet_photo_book/?cid=eng_phb_mini_1009
I hope this helps!
I was on your site the other day & was disappointed, that I could no longer find my poems on your site. I had had them transfered over to your site last spring!!
Perhaps you could tell me where they have dissapeared to???
Thank You
K. Dale
K,
When you say they were transferred, do you mean from poets.com or from another site?
Nick,
I am still unable to access my poems on Lulu. I had 360+ poems transferred to Lulu from Poets.com. It is so discouraging to still not have any information on where my work is, and how I can get access to it. Please Help!!! Thank you!
Dear Nick,
