Grandparents in Revolt & The Lulu Contest to Give ’em What They Want

If you’re a mom or dad, you answer to a lot of different bosses — chief among them, the grandparents. And that group often isn’t shy about sharing suggestions and directives.

In a new national poll commissioned by Lulu, 96 percent of grandparents told us that family togetherness makes for happy holidays, and 90 percent said that they long for more time with their grandkids. But with families scattered every which way and gas prices high, is togetherness too much to ask for?

To avert a national crisis, Lulu launches our first ever Family Photos for the Holidays contest. Even if you can’t be together in person, you can still get face time through photos.

Better Fundraising this Holiday with Lulu

Lulu.com wants to help small businesses and non-profit organizations in our home state of North Carolina raise more funds this holiday season, just by making a free calendar. We’re even throwing in a $1,000 cash bonus to the organization that sells the most calendars between Oct. 5th and Dec. 31st. We’re also including participating organizations in Lulu’s holiday marketing and publicity. It’s simple, too.

To participate:

  • Any small business or non-profit in North Carolina can create an account on Lulu, then a calendar project at no cost.
  • Add your favorite pics to the online calendar template. Drag and drop, and then publish your calendar.
  • Once done, just email fundraising@lulu.com with a link to your project. That’s it.

Your new calendar is a fun way to engage your fans and supporters and it is free to create. A local food truck could make a calendar of their truck outside different places around town. Or a restaurant could create a calendar with recipes and pics of their favorite dishes. The options are endless.

Lulu will include participating local businesses and non-profits in the following marketing as well:

  • Regular social networking blasts to Lulu fans and followers
  • Direct email campaigns
  • Lulu fundraising marketing and PR campaigns

Start your project today and spread some extra cheer this holiday. We can only feature you if we know about your project so please email a link to your calendar to fundraising@lulu.com by the first week of October.

Shelf Unbound Writing Competition for Best Self-Published Book

As self-published authors, we find that it’s often in our own hands to promote our own work. We make daily efforts to find new and innovative ways to spread the word, inspire readers and gain recognition. At Lulu, we are always thrilled to see self-published authors succeed, and we are particularly grateful to the people and organizations that dedicate their efforts to supporting the community of self-published authors.

That said, we are happy to share with you a great new opportunity for self-published authors brought to you by Margaret Brown of Shelf Unbound Magazine. If you don’t know Shelf Unbound, I highly recommend checking it out.

And without further ado… the competition details below in the words of Margaret Brown herself:

Seeking Best Self-Published Book

We launched the Shelf Unbound Writing Competition for Best Self-Published Book a couple of weeks ago. Word of mouth. Social media. Modest expectations. I immediately got a rather scathing email from an industry guy questioning my ethical integrity – how can I justify charging $10 entry fee when there are no self-published books worthy of even being read, he asked.
