Like, Follow, Share: What’s in it for me?

Every day we are asked by friends, acquaintances, and companies to Like, Follow or Share their page or post. It’s simple enough. It requires only a click. Lulu is no different. Like you, we are always happy to see new Likes, but what’s in it for you when you Like Lulu?

If you are a fan of innovative, independent authors, liking Lulu on Facebook will keep you in the know about new authors and daily discounts. But readers shouldn’t stop there. You should also Like your favorite author’s Facebook page and stay informed about their upcoming events and new releases. By creating a relationship with an author, you may get sneak peaks at future titles, covers or early chapters. Surely that’s worth the investment of a click.

If you are an author who published with Lulu, we recommend you not only Like our page, but also consider Following us as well. When you follow Lulu, you are assured of receiving the daily discount and other news, which you can then Share with your Facebook fans.

Periodically sharing Lulu discounts on Facebook gives you an excuse to reach out to your readers with a personalized message in addition to savings. If you are feeling especially generous, you can further entice new readers by supersizing the daily discount. You can easily change a 20% discount to 30% or offer 15% off your book when Lulu is offering free shipping. Click here to learn how.

Your target audience already loves books, discounts and Facebook. However, if you are trying to attract new readers, remember the “Rule of Seven” – on average, a person must see or hear your marketing message seven times before it actually registers. The more a person sees your book mentioned online, the more likely they are to take the next step – clicking to learn more which leads to purchases. So don’t be shy about sharing your story, your book, or those Lulu discounts.

Likewise, don’t be afraid to ask your fans to share with their friends. Word-of-mouth and social media are the two most popular means of discovering new books.

So, Like us today and Share us regularly. It only takes a few clicks to reach a worldwide audience.

I told three friends and they told three friends and so on….

The Season of Discounts: Save on Stuff You Want

on-sale-nowThis time of year, you can’t close your eyes and throw a rock without hitting a discount. Everything is on sale;  you can buy one item at full price and get the other free, or save from an additional markdown taken at checkout, not to mention the ever popular year-end inventory closeout sales.

As we get closer to the holidays, bargain shopping becomes a sport.  Our favorite stores have less to choose from, but if you are super small, super tall, or super persistent you can get the best deals of the year as retailers make room for next year’s new things.

On the other hand, when you shop at Lulu, you never have to worry about the book or calendar you want being sold out. When you place your order, your books and calendars are printed just for you and shipped hot off the press. Yes, it takes a few days to print and ship your order, but when you buy from Lulu, an independent author profits rather than a corporate publisher or huge online retailer.

And chances are, there will also be a discount available so check your email before ordering.

Support the arts.

Make an author happy.

Sell More Books: Super Size Seasonal Discounts

inventory-discounts

Let’s try out a few seasonal slogans you could use for holiday marketing efforts…

“Stuff those stockings with books!”

“Put some books on that shelf by the elf!”

“A dreidel AND a book? Best Hanukah ever!”

“Deck the halls with deals on books and while you’re at it strategically develop a marketing plan that takes advantage of Lulu.com’s seasonal sales and discounts.”

Okay, so that last one doesn’t quite flow off the tongue, but it’s good advice all the same. Coordinating your marketing efforts to coincide with Lulu’s impressive holiday discounts is the next best thing to having your books carried right down your readers’ chimneys by Santa himself.

What’s so great about it? For starters, everyone loves books and they love saving money. All you have to do is share the Lulu discount codes in your email and social media marketing. Don’t forget to also share the expiration date and any restrictions.

Savvy Marketing Tip

Did you know that when Lulu offers a store-wide discount, you can sweeten the deal by adding another 5, 10, or 15% off? That’s right, a 25% off sale can easily be bumped up to 30 or 40% off for huge savings.

Using this strategy, you can make any day Black Friday, Cyber Monday, or create your own huge sale event.

Here’s How to Juice Those Discounts

You can add a discount in the Lulu Bookstore for any printed book or calendar priced above the manufacturing cost.

  • Go to My Projects and click on the project title.
  • Scroll down to Pricing and Creator Revenues and click Edit.
  • Click Pricing Details to view manufacturing and profit splits

  • Click Set Discount and choose the percentage discount you wish to offer.
  • Click Set Discount to apply the discount.
  • Click Pricing Details to view the discounted price and your revenue.
  • Click Save Changes.

The discount is immediately applied to your book or calendar in the Lulu bookstore.

Note: When applied to purchases, Lulu discounts do not affect author revenue. Author-applied discounts reduce profits and therefore reduce author revenue.

The words you choose to promote your books and new releases are all yours, but you should also be taking advantage of Lulu.com’s weekly sales and special offers. To help you with your marketing, our site discounts are now being offered for up to one week making it easier than ever to share them with your readers.

Why should you be using email promotion? For starters, email marketing works. Social media may seem like the savvier approach, but email is roughly six times more effective at bringing in new buyers than Facebook and Twitter. Email also gives you a great platform for sharing special offers and introducing new books, without your carefully crafted message getting lost in the endless scroll of tweets, status updates, and ever-changing social media display algorithms.

Here’s a sample email template you can adapt for your use:

Email Subject Line:
Save XX% on the Season’s Hottest Book: <insert book title>

See? Simple. You highlight the current savings, briefly describe the book, and provide easy instructions. It’s low-pressure, informative and brief. You can even provide a link right to your book’s product page and save your readers from searching. If you have multiple titles, include a link to your Author Spotlight page to encourage shoppers to browse your catalog. Everyone wins when your readers shop in the Lulu bookstore. They save money and you earn higher revenues.

Though we are currently in the middle of the summer reading season, this strategy works year-round. At Lulu.com, we’re always looking for ways to help you promote and sell your books. Whenever we have a sale — seasonal or otherwise — send out an email blast letting everyone know. After all, it’s always the season for reading!

Current discounts, coupon codes, and expiration dates are always listed on the Lulu home page: www.lulu.com/home
