[cover thumbnail] Myth, Fact, and Confusion in the Disappearances of Children in...
by Stephen Fraser
7,000 word magazine article on the rumors and stories that surrounded the alleged disappearances of children in Guatemala in the early 1990s. The article was prompted by an attack that took place in San Cristobal Verapaz, Guatemala, on an American tourist, June Weinstock, in early 1994. A mob of people, under the mistaken belief that Weinstock was a witch who stole children, nearly beat her to death. The article examines some of the social forces as well as the myths and stories that may have led to the attack, especially the increasing number of adoptions of Guatemalan children by Americans. Despite persistent allegations that many of these adoptions were illegal, the truth of the matter was difficult to discern.

[cover thumbnail] THE TRUE MEANING OF MALCOLM X
by Don Steele
These essays in political philosophy by Don Steele, based upon a "Spiritual Analysis" first published as a series of articles in The Community Voice Newsjournal and later reprinted in book form along with other essays on Malcolm X help us to arrive from a simple political understanding of Malcolm X to a complex "true meaning" understanding of one of the greatest political, spiritual and intellectual leaders of the 20th century. Malcolm X was a principle prominent of independent black leadership in a line of independent political thought and action linked to Marcus Garvey, the other great leader of the 20th century, and Martin Delany, novelist, political theorist and activist of the 19th century.

[cover thumbnail] A New Kind of Social Science: Study of Self-organization of Human...
by Vlad Dimitrov
This book introduces a new kind of social inquiry centered in exploration of the self-organizing nature of human dynamics. By studying the ways self-organization manifests: its origin and characteristics, its stimulators and impediments, catalysts and inhibitors, factors which support, sustain, impede, or block its inward and outward realizations, the author reveals new challenging insights which remain hidden if one continues to study society as an object of research separated from the unique and fathomless richness of the whirling complexity of individual dynamics. The author links the study of social complexity with his original research into uncertainty inherent in human knowing and learning. This makes the book equally attractive an... Read More
