Description:

This Meeting of the Committee is Called to Order... You braved crocodiles, Nazis, necromancy, and devolved ape men to find the mythical city and the secrets it holds. You tested your skills and resolve to their limits, driven by a secret desire that motivates you to greater deeds just as it blinds you to possible pitfalls. Now you have returned from your expedition and must report to your peers, proving to the hardened adventurers gathered before you that you are worthy of their respect in your every endeavor. You’ve gone into danger and survived driven by your desire—now is the time to bring it to fruition. The Committee for the Exploration of Mysteries is a storytelling game of exploration and adventure. Playable in a single evening or over multiple sessions, it allows you to tell tales of harrowing danger and daring deeds with freeform narration and pulse-pounding timed conflict resolution. No pre-game preparation is required, so grab your hat, your whip, and your .45 and get going!

I played a demo of this game at Go Play NW last year. It was great fun, and the perfect combination of cooperative and competitive play. You play members of the title committee, regaling the others with the tales of your latest exploits. Players must work together to define and achieve the goal, but also work to outshine each other in their derring-do to earn the most praise from other members of the committee.

The mechanics were fast and easy to pick-up. Character creation is both easy and an active part of each game, so it's as fun as the rest of the story.

I'm buying this to play at parties. It will make a wonderful replacement for more traditional party games.
