Jayme is an extremely creative author in her respective field of fiction, I've known her for a 15 years and to pick up her book I was curious to see what she wrote about. I got the news of the release from Keith Tomson. She does have a feel for her characters, and this book is the stepping stone for her to get published. This book is going to be the start of bigger things for her when she spans out to other genres. I've known that she was always creative but when I learned that when she was a writer -- it was long after we called it quits. For her to put this book out there --it takes a lot of guts, and in turn she gave me the kick in the ass needed to put out my own book. I will also make a note about the cover, those of you who wonder who redesigned the book -- I did all that for her. She came to me about working on the novel for her, I did it because of what I did with my own magazine and used the Litrix Library Books as the model for the cover template. I used a stock template downloaded it then I did a lot of work with it on fxfoto.

A more than decent fantasy story, January 31, 2005
Reviewer: XerxesSkyknyght "Charles" (Chicago, IL USA) - See all my reviewsThis book is written by a close friend of mine, and that may make my view a little skewed, but here goes. As always I will do my best to be impartial

"Serena," as she preferrs to be known, is both a poet and a short story writer, and concentrates mainly on fantasy heavily based on the forces of magic that surround and permeate the people, places and events of Avalon, her own personal world. This world is mideval Europe to a certain extent, except that mysoginy is apparently the farthest thing from anyone's minds.

One of her trademarks would have to be her very strong female characters. Altheia, the main character of the story, is an altered version of a classic Dungeons and Dragons elf (pointy ears, lithe, "exotic looking" as she puts it), has a take-no-crap attitude, and the skills to back it up. She is a versatile spellcaster and able combatant, and takes her directives from none other than Avalon's deities. Though perhaps a bit over-zealous in her portrayal of powerful women, she does not fall victim to making them too masculine either.

Marginally comical and tragic events interlace with a whirlwind tour of Avalon, showcasing a good portion of what the world has in store for her vast army of characters. She is constantly brainstorming new possiblities, new plotlines, and new heroines, and this certainly is not the last we've seen of Avalon. It may never be just as it is presented here, but that's to be expected.

All in all, Avalon is one of those books that makes you want more in a good way. It's a fast read, not bogged down by pretentiousness or trying to sound highbrow like some fantasy books on the market. Get this book and spread it around, so you can get more Avalon adventures.
