A nice slice of fiction. [ No Rating ] 29 Jan 2007
This download consists of two stories and a short introduction to the fine world of pulp fiction (in the original 1920's sense). It follows the adventures of small town reporter Patrick Spencer, who gets caught up in the world of the tough and grizzled Jack Slade. They are basically film noir supernatural horror stories. The second story, "Hellflight" is better than "The Lupine Stone" as it gets going quicker, but the first story is a good introduction to the characters. The author has avoided writing too much in a pastiche pulp style and it reads vwery well. A good way to spend a train journey somewhere. The essay on pulp at the back is well-written and interesting even if you are into this sort of fiction anyway.
