This book is a compilation of on-location ink drawings from The American Museum of Natural History, on The Staten Island Ferry, and at construction sites and churches throughout the city. There are two realities at play in these drawings: the subject in its true state (the man sleeping at the station), and the marks made by my hand on the paper. It is my intent to balance the charge between these elements. The real and the illusion are in an eternal dance of agreement (“that’s a man”) and disagreement (“those are messy ink lines”). The creation and the act, the finished and the unfinished, caught in a still, intimate moment. Keywords:Listed in: |
