Writers Digest Magazine – 2001
Certificate of Merit
"In his novel, where fiction blends with historical account, it is plain that Mr. Gravelle walks the narrow divide with confidence. He has given the reader an intimate look at the foggy lanes of London’s East End, an Atlantic crossing, the interior and exterior conflicts of many characters’ lives, and all of this takes place in a century past.
Throughout the book there is an atmosphere both chilling and romantic. The author uses a stiff prose, conveying Victorian times on one hand, while on the other he delved into his characters with sensuous language that aroused passion.
I felt the characters were motivated, Dr. Barnet surely the most memorable. I considered him, in the end, to be his own antagonist. Scenes were most successful. Congratulations to Mr. Gravelle for a compelling story."

Provided by Richard Jones, author of the acclaimed "Walking Haunted London," and "Frommers Memorable Walks in London." Richard is also London’s best "Ripper Walk" tour guide and provides enthusiasts with a thrilling journey along the "Original London Ghost Walk." Iron Hill Pictures presented a documentary in 1997 written and presented by Richard entitled, "On the Trail of Jack the Ripper."

"In The Fort Providence Watch, Henry Gravelle resists the temptation to escort us on another search over well-trodden ground to convince us that he finally has unmasked Jack the Ripper. Instead, we find ourselves looking, disturbingly, at a man’s downfall. You can almost feel yourself admitting, however reluctantly, "There but for the grace of God, go I," and how refreshing in the plethora of Ripper literature such an approach proves.
The haunting images are both troubling and spine tingling. By weaving his story around the infamous murders, Henry presents us with a study, not into the mystery of Jack the Ripper – there are too many of those already – but provides us with a carefully crafted insight into the darker recesses of the human mind. In doing so, makes an invaluable addition to the investigation."
