Description:

Dr. Carlos Benson wants nothing more than to be a successful doctor, but his love for medicine is sorely tested when he squares off against Mayor Simon Pinder, a drug-dealing politician and voodoo leader who runs Flamboyant Cay in the Bahamas. Handsome, athletic and proud Dr. Benson nearly loses everything in an all-out war against Pinder, who is determined to send the good doctor packing to his native Guyana - or better yet bury him six feet under. The doctor believes in science, traditional Western medicine, and the power of hard facts. The mayor, meanwhile, trades in blood sacrifice, medicinal herbs, and illegal drugs. His is the devotion to power, secrecy and the occult. The woman who comes between the two - the mayor's stunningly beautiful niece, Evita Farrington - eventually spells one man's doom and the other's rebirth. The last man standing will be the one most willing to overcome his prejudices, the one most able to change.

A reader from Nassau, Bahamas, writes:
I always wanted to know more about sorcery and lodge. Cliff Bacchus, you took me into the heart of it with your book. Very impressed. I love the chapter about the Secret Lodge. I felt as if I was there experiencing everything. Is that what they do behind closed doors? Wow! I was thinking of joining - not any more!

A reader from North California writes: I read your book to the end, travellng from North Carolina to Florida. I love the tropical wedding in the end but it made me feel sad and I'm still crying. The people in the story are so real, so complete, and you manage to play them out so well to the very end. It was like a soap opera. I'll remember the people in the novel, I think, forever. Good job!
