David Maybury was diagnosed with Melanoma during the summer of 2002. As the disease progressed, David chose to face the situation with mindfulness. He began writing a cancer diary in the spring to 2003. Then he decided to reach out to a circle of friends and family, to whom he started sending health updates by email. When he was referred to hospice care in the fall of 2004, David collected the journal and email writing together, and began writing other material as part of a life review. He also decided to include poetry he wrote throughout his life. Lake of Forgotten and Missing Dreams looks at life, past, present, and future, in the light of death.
