A Review of Justice by Crystal Ordonez
Reviewed by J. L. Foster
Rating: 5 Swords
Crystal Ordonez has done it again! Justice has to be one of her most frightening, moving tales in quite some time. It’s well known that Ordonez has a certain knack when it comes to writing tales of revenge, and Justice is no exception to her usual witty turn of phrase.
Ray Black is a gay porn star. Actually, he’s what is known as “gay for pay” in the industry, meaning that he is a heterosexual earning a living by having sex with men. Privately, he is a school teacher, a father, and a husband… or at least he was, before a student of his was busted by his mother while masturbating to one of his movies on the internet. It is at this point that Ray’s life is change for the worst. Divorced… fired… forced from his son by a court of law, Ray spends his next ten years wandering from job after job, woman after woman, and nightmare after nightmare. Ray doesn’t know it yet, but Justice is soon to arrive in his apartment building, and that Justice will be served in the wickedest of ways.
Mrs. Ordonez definitely uses her knowledge of horror, African culture, and the stereotypes of society to her advantage. By creating a world where “Justice is delayed, but Justice is never denied,” she offers a tiny glimmer of hope into the lives of those who have been done wrong. From a sociologically terrifying beginning to a supernatural, heartfelt end, Justice has been delivered.
Once again, Crystal Ordonez sentences us to another round of pure entertainment that is guaranteed to keep you on the edge of your sheet. While Justice is a bit lighter on the gore and violence that Ordonez-fans might be used to, it reeks of intense chills brought on but the simplest of comments. The author has proven herself a valuable wordsmith in the genre of horror, and with Justice, she has crafted a story that would have made Robert Bloch or even Edgar Allen Poe sit up and take notice.

5 Swords!
Frequently good intentions do pave the road to a hellish life. Such was the case for Ray: all he wanted to do was to provide an assured good income for his wife and beloved son. Ray just happened to choose a well-paying field that landed him in hot water; he became a porn star, and an allegedly gay one at that.
Yes, “Gay-for-Pay Ray” lost his teaching job, his marriage, and all access to his son, while still retaining the obligation to pay high child support fees. News does get around, as does gossip; and more folks watch porn than like to admit it. Soon Ray found himself loser in a string of jobs. What’s a good guy to do?
Not commit suicide, as Ray’d considered; the better alternative is to simply wait. Justice may be delayed, but there are times in life when Justice will NOT be denied.
Justice is an exciting and energetic short tale about a man whose life went all wrong simply because he wanted to do right by his loved ones. But as in all the Ordonez Revenge Tales, something’s gonna break, something’s gonna give, and Justice will roll into the picture with a vengeance. Kudos to Ms. Ordonez on this one, one of the best among many excellent stories!
