A great light hearted and canny pastiche with lashings of old fashioned derring do and great historical backdrop; this is an excellent and welcome read in the Sherlock Holmes canon. Its good to know that Holmes and Watson, even in their 80s can still rally to England's call!

Knowing I like Sherlock Holmes a friend gave me 'The Curse of the Nibelung' for my birthday and although I took some weeks to get around to reading it, once began I just started to laugh out loud. Although it is really funny, it is also a great original and exciting Holmes adventure set at the very end of Sherlock's and Watson's life. Winston Churchill sends them to Germany undercover at the begining of WW2 to discover Germany's biggest military secret and the wonderful difficulties and twists that occur when they get there are perfect; - having them sunk at sea hilarious and I think I have developed a thing for the beautiful nurse Cornelia. A fun read and a definite must for any Holmes collection.
