Description:

Meet Gustav, a wooden goose decoy. In my book, HERONK, GUSTAV shares with us the adventures of his life. Through many travels and unexpected travails his story offers a unique and insightful glimpse into the world of the waterfowler. Who would think that glass eyes, glued into a wooden head, could see the world so clearly? Gustav begins the quest with his “creation” at the hands of an old German waterfowler/craftsman in Illinois, circa 1930. Over the course of the next half century he is pulled along by the current of rivers, pushed by the energy of providence and influenced by the power of the human spirit. Ultimately and unexpectedly he finds his way home.

I have to give this book a big thumbs up! It's a fantastic read for anyone who has ever been bitten by the waterfowling bug! The author knows his "stuff" about hunting geese and ducks, but more importantly he knows, understands, and puts into words what really "counts" when friends and family share a blind. Through the eyes of a decoy over many years and through many waterfolwing relationships Mr. Richards explains the true mystique and comraderie of waterfowlers and the sport they love. This book is a must read for all waterfowlers and should be read by anyone with questions as to why we do what we do. Wives and girlfriends of waterfowlers would be well served to read this book also.
What an AWESOME book!!

Heronk is brilliantly written through the eyes of Gustav, a wooden decoy. This book is very intriguing and shares many life stories between different generations. A book for fathers and sons to bond with! Great job, Ronald!
