Description:

Collection of 45 poems by published transatlantic poet, well known on the performance circuit, whose work is described as “so vibrant, the language crackling like lightening on power lines, I want to drink in Lawrence’s poems again and again” (Jim Ciletti, President Poetry West, USA) and “powerful, fluid, lyrical language, each reading peeling back another layer of meaning” (Terry Grimwood, author, UK). Poems are sensory and visceral and have a subtle musicality. They are crafted so the words, imagery, textures and sound form a seamless composition.

This collection explores the whole gamut of emotions facing us in the early 21st Century: losing love, living with illness, acknowledging genocides, feelings of belonging and non-belonging. Lawrence looks these issues in the eye with painful but rewarding honesty.

This elegiac and intriguing poem perfectly evokes a mood of grief, sorrow, loss and mourning. A giant of a poem, it is one of the first that Jessica Lawrence wrote, demonstrating a huge talent and (fulfilled) promise of more to come.

I have known Jessica for over 15 years and have admired the vivacity of her work and how skilled she is at composing peoms. I consider her poems to be likened to a musical composition and have been to her live performances and can say that she has held her audience truly spellbound. This is a book you will treasure for years.

This is real poetry, subtle, intense, often enigmatic. Full of visual imagery and multiple meaning, "Dreams of Flight" rewards constant re-reading. This is writing from the soul. Neil Martin.

Great poems, very well written with interesting rhythms and wonderful but subtle alliteration. The imagery draws on the natural world which merges with the human consciousness and with a range of emotions from anguish, joy, lamentation and celebration. Highly recommended.

I have been a fan of Jessica Lawrence for over 20 years and have followed her writing career in the US and the UK. She is a vibrant, engaging and original poet whose work can be read over and over and each time you find something more to marvel about. A great and satisfying read.

A deep. many-layered collection of beautifully crafted poems. It feels as if every word has been induvidually agonised over, every line honed to a polish. This is not comfortable reading, the subjects and themes often dark, highly charged and obviously personal. "Pillaging the Landscape of the Brain" is my favourite, as sharp as a scalpel, disturbing and as visceral as its subject. This is the work of a serious, talented writer. Buy it, this is an important anthology.
