Arras is the capital of the Pas-de-Calais department in northern France. Having Gallic and Gallo-Roman origins and more than 2000 years of history, Arras is packed with heritage. The city and its surroundings were badly damaged during the two World Wars, but things have been rebuilt faithfully. In July 2005, the belfry of Arras was classified as part of the ‘World Inheritance of Humanity' by UNESCO and the Citadel of Arras is also expected to be classified in 2008.
