It is never easy to describe the third part in a trillogy without some reference to the preceeding two parts, and this normally involves some form of plot spoiler. However, I shall do my best. This is the third part in a series of books called The New Kingdom trillogy. It is set on an Earth type planet that has one sun and two moons, and time frame wise is about the middle ages. Lots of Castles (proper fortified ones, not ones in the middle of a field with no moat) Kings (one evil and twisted, the other only just becoming valiatly brave) and Maidens (though if Lydia was ever called a maiden to her face by anyone but her husband, she would probably leap on them and slice their ear off with her dagger.)

So, not all that predictable, either.

Set not too far ahead of In Exile it continues the story marvelously, only pausing for a brief rest before picking up the fast pace once again. By now the charecters are firm, stand alone, greats, among them some of my favourates ever in fact.

As ever there are twists and turns that you wont suspect coming. People that seemed minor becoming more vital to the cause of good/bad than you thought. Of course there's always a good game of "Who lives? Who dies? If anyone at all!" and exclamations abound of "Who's that again? Oh yeah, wow, glad he/she's back!"

On the whole a very nicely rounded book, doing what all trillogies should do. Which is to make you want to read the whole load again from start to finish.
