Description:

Mentoring must be personally valued and personally espoused; it cannot be dictated or prescribed. However, if African American female administrators choose to participate in a mentoring program, the academy must identify and support the development of their careers with this tool. This would not only be for the sake of the women themselves, but for the benefit of the inistitution as well. Mentoring would allow African American female administrators to have greater responsibility and visibility. This would facilitate a greater encouragement for young African Americans to change their experiences, but will help to change the overall paradigm.
