Description:

Often Denis Gerfaud’s scenarios have a wry and skewed take on the classic fantasy roleplaying genre. Rather than postulate prodigious protagonists performing outrageous acts of heroism, they often involve Journeyers stumbling upon a small wrong in the Dreaming needing to be set right. Always, though, the solution is more about correctly interpreting the poetic analogies of the scenario, rather than, er, slaying a dragon so to speak. These scenarios, some by Gerfaud, capture the mood of this game that French players have been enjoying for over two decades. Like the game’s author, they are deliberately skewed, taking as their props everyday situations and objects absurdly or surreally distorted. Vault of Dreams includes: Unicorn Dream, Chrysobelle, Nose of Hypnos, Vale of Phosneratu, Tempest in a Teacup, Sacrificial Oracle, Dread Ringers, Navigator, Dressmaker of Gothga, and Dark of the Well. Appendices provide background on the city of Gothga, and a new creature, the bouncer.

An excellent introduction to the slightly-unhinged fantasy that is Rêve

Rêve is both a fairly classical fantasy rpg, with its orcs, goblins, wizards and knights, and at the same time it is nothing like a classical fantasy rpg. The tropes, when present, are twisted in a way that is recognisable and yet ultimately different to what one would expect.

This is a collection of short scenarios that will last one or two sessions at most but together paint a very accurate picture of what Rêve is about. There's horror, there's poetry, there's dream, there's a bit of inevitable wackyness, and just enough common ground with habitual fantasy that you won't lose your players.

A great introduction, and tons of accumulated fun.
