I have just read Mr Aspinalls "review" with some distress and have immediately removed all of his content from the book published by Lulu. I do however need to add a few comments.
1. I DID reply to his email - on six separate occasions over a period of many months. All mails were returned marked "Unable to deliver to adressee" by his ISP. Mr Aspinalls original email asked me take new photographs in place of his own. This was done and my "declined" emails to him included these new photographs for his approval and for any comments he wished to add.
2. The author of Winter Hill Scrapbook receives no financial reward whatsoever from the book, with ALL profits (which are minimal) going to The Bolton Mountain Rescue Team (the last cheque was sent off to them in November 2007).
3. I regret any distress inadvertently caused to Mr Aspinall, but feel that a simple pleasant email from him would have resulted in the immediate removal of his research without any need for his "review"!
4. The material used in the book was originally placed on a totally public third party web site by Mr Aspinall himself who wished to share his information with others. Full acknowledgement was made in the book of both himself and the full sources of this material. Full credits were given to Mr Aspinall in the Appendix.
5. If, at some future stage, Mr Aspinall wishes to rejoin the many dozens of people who have contributed to the Winter Hill Scrapbook, I would be more than happy to add any material he may care to have included in any future edition. My intention is to provide the maximum amount of information available about Winter Hill to those who are interested, NOT to cause friction anywhere.
