PDF refers to Adobe Acrobat's Portable Document Format. This is a file format that can be read on any system using Adobe Acrobat Reader. (Adobe Reader is free to download here.) A PDF can be viewed on most major operating systems while retaining the original document formatting. This makes it an ideal format for e-publishing as well as printing, and it has become an industry standard. With PDF Creation services, we will convert your existing Microsoft Word document to a printer-ready PDF for submission to publishers, printers, or to upload to Lulu.com for publication. (If you need to convert your manuscript from an alternative file type, such as Plain Text, Microsoft Works, Rich Text Format, or WordPerfect, please see Manuscript Formatting. Important! We offer the following PDF Creation Services:
1. Basic PDF Creation: This includes converting your Microsoft Word or OpenOffice.org document to a high quality, printer-ready PDF.
2. Formatting & Basic PDF Creation: We will format your manuscript and supply you with a high quality, printer-ready PDF. (Your PDF will be supplied free of charge as part of the formatting package. (Please see our Free Sample Format page for detailed information or to order this service.)
3. Package PDF Creation: Package PDF Creation includes three separate PDF files for individual publishing options, including separate files optimized for print, e-book, and preview publication. (You may order this service here).
4. Custom PDF Creation: This can include converting all web addresses to active hyperlinks, an active table of contents (selection will jump to location), and a side index, which links to chapter or section headings. (Contact us for rate and purchase information.)

Important Note: For PDF conversion, authors must submit their manuscript in full prior to purchasing PDF Creation services so that we may confirm that the work will convert without errors. If there is a problem with the format of the manuscript that may generate PDF or Lulu printer errors, we will outline the possible errors, and you may correct them or obtain our manuscript formatting services (formatting includes PDF creation free of charge). If you would like to receive a free manuscript format evaluation, please e-mail us for submission information. (We will request to see your formatted manuscript. Your e-mail should also include the intended trim size [Example: 6x9] and whether you plan to purchase a distribution package.) If your manuscript will convert without error, turnaround is often same-day.
