Description:The votes are in: marriage is between a man and a woman. What do two young people in love do, if those words don't work for them? Carys and Jami may be girls, but Carys has never willingly worn a dress and Jami, who has, is intersexed. Though being a teenager in love is never easy, for Carys and Jami falling in love with each other is a terrifying journey in self-discovery and, ultimately, trust. Keywords:Listed in: |

What a privilege it is to be able to be part of Jami and Carys's lives as they fall in love and start a life together! The girls are not the usual one-dimensional slackers, druggies, and emos you see on TV these days. No, these girls have goals, talent, courage, and compassion-- like a lot of real-life kids have. I'm glad they found one another, to help each other work through life's challenges, and the particular challenges of having minority (though perfectly normal) sexual and gender identities.
Lisa Lees does a wonderful job of creating a story that models a lot of healthy behaviors and attitudes for young people in times of enormous personal growth, while making it engrossing for adult readers as well. She weaves in a great deal of fascinating information, not just about gender and sexuality, but also clowning, photography, theatre, and a host of other subjects. Best of all, there are no chase scenes, spies, cops, or newspaper reporters; this is just life. Thank you, Lisa, for letting me into Carys and Jami's lives. I look forward to visiting them again soon, in their Queer Circle of Friends.
