Description:

Paul Marconi always knew there was something different about him. Raised by his mother, who died when he was still very young, he devoted his life to helping children with psychological issues. His life changes after a visitor comes to his office claiming to be his father...a man with supernatural powers. Paul journeys to find an old friend of his mother. She is the only person who can protect him from his father and teach him about his true nature. Paul learns the secrets of the ancient world. A world ruled by ancient beings responsible for the myths and legends passed on throughout the centuries. He and Natasha soon learn that his father is planning to create a new world order; one based upon the world of the ancients...a world where humans serve as slaves to alien visitors.

Ms. Hartley has done a wonderful job bringing fictional characters and real places to life in this riveting tale. She adds fascinating historical and geographical tidbits (much of the story takes place in Russia) that bring the characters to life, but never interrupt the flow of the story. She's introduced an ancient 'underground' that plausibly and captivatingly explains many of history's myths and mysteries, and brings it seamlessly into a spellbinding story, using it to enhance, rather than overpower, the plot.

My only regret is that it wasn't longer. I'm looking forward to her next offering, hopefully a sequel to Guardians of Myth: Legends Reborn. A trilogy following the protagonist Paul Marconi would be very exciting.
