Layered Intimation transports us in a little Swedish village to tell us the story of some characteristic members of its community. They are neighbors, friends, relative, a fragment of our imagination hanker to reality. We all know them yet never met them: the secluded granny next door, the young confused mother, the housewife constantly baking, the tough farmer and the deceitful hunter. They are our idea of countryside stereotypes with strong gender roles. Jennie Rosenberg challenged these concepts by impersonating each character, to the perfection; every detail, objects framed by the lens have a purpose, from the pack of butter on the stove to the dog seating by his master. The feeling of remoteness is emphasized by the facial expression of the personages paired with empty spaces. As if there were no escape in their fate
The project has a cinematographic background, using staged scenario . The title ‘Layered Intimation’ is a paradox of two words implying that there is more to the picture than what we see. Which reminds me of the stereotypes idea. Jennie Rosenberg has put herself in the picture, the one of her childhood and memories to help us understand who we are.
