The two sections of Post Bling-Bling haunt each other. The vanities of commodified abundance confront and are confronted by the achings/cravings produced by an unnaturally starved economy. In the first, when encountering advertising in Vanity Fair crafted by Eileen Tabios into a variety of recognizable poetic forms, the reader might ask: can a poet make advertising the non-ironic flip side of ironic social poetry through a bit of spatial (re)contextualizing? Is advertising the parasite in poetry’s host? The second involves another bold mode of collaboration: with Tabios as moderator, Filipino/a-Americans engage in spirited cyber dialogue about the social and psychological meanings of the gifts (or perhaps affronts?) that they have sent their families and friends who did not leave the Philippines.
