High technology persists only in small, secretive enclaves. One such place, a hidden undersea habitat in the Caribbean, finds itself in deep trouble when discovered by an expansionistic - and tyrannical - South American empire seeking to recreate the glory of the Incas. Two escapees from the habitat - a teenage boy and an aquatic robot - make their separate ways to the North American mainland to seek help for their people, who are now divided between besiegement and captivity. The first volume lays the foundation work for what will be an epic storyline of adversity, love, war, politics and friendship in a post-apocalyptic era where the collision of technological worlds tests all the conventional rules of engagement.
