It's a common theme in romance because so many of us want our significant other to be just that—our best friend. Gabe Kapshaw is no different. Gabe has been falling for his best friend, Laney Roberts, since she returned to Lilac Grove, Iowa. After a failed relationship with her high school sweetheart, Laney has realized Lilac Grove is home and attempts to continue her journalism career in her hometown, oblivious to Gabe’s feelings. Gabe struggles with his feelings for Laney along with his love for his family farm, which is being left to his older brother once his father retires. As the two struggle to find their careers, they rediscover each other in the process. In the end, The Road That Leads Home is about finding home, finding yourself, and by doing so, discovering your other half. Originally written during National Novel Writing Month 2002. "Gabe and Laney had been friends since they were children, and their friendship remained strong into adulthood. No two people could be closer; they shared everything… well almost. Everyone around them recognized the chemistry between them, but themselves, and when either considered the attraction to the other, they played it off.
Then Gabe realized his feelings for Laney were genuine, but Laney feared letting go of her “best friend.” Will this friendship exceed into something more? Find out in Nicole Beck’s book “The Road That Leads Home.”
Given a slight tweaking… this book would make it to a 5 star rating. I enjoyed the story line, finding it hard to break away, waiting with anticipation to see what happened with the “star” couple. It provides the reader with convincing emotions- a very good read!"
