I found this book and its website www.freezerbagcooking.com in a discussion over at fluwikie.com After purchasing the book and trying a couple of the recipes out PRIOR to hitting the trail with them; I can only say IT WORKS. The writing style is friendly and informative; the front chapter on the basics and gear is really helpful; I used the information provided to explore lightweight dinnerware and alcohol stoves. I made my own cozy -- and as I'm a quilter, this turned out to be a quick and easy project.

Recipes I tried were Curry Rice with Chicken and Chicken & Mushroom Rice and they were both filling and tasty. I also appreciated the low sodium recipes and advice on converting recipes to a low sodium version.

This book is also useful for preppers looking for easy, lightweight meals for their bug-out-bag as an alternative to MREs. The concept of cooking in freezer bags is perfect for this usage -- meals need only water and you control the ingredients going into each bag (not to mention saving money).
