The Full Points Footy Encyclopedia of Australian Football Clubs. Volume One by John Devaney [ No Rating ] 23 Jun 2008 (updated 23 Jun 2008)
There is no doubt that John has done an absolute fantastic job in compiling so much factual detail in this book. As a football tragic, it great to now have a resource where I can look up any details of a major Australian football club. Once you start reading it it's very hard to put such a great book down. Very much looking forward to the future edition and state by state publications in the near future. Well done John, 5 stars !

This is quite simply the most definitive, all encompassing book of its type yet published. In a year when the Australian Football League is commemorating the 150th anniversary of Australian football I can think of no more appropriate tribute than this magnificent tome, which provides historical details of all the most important clubs to have played the code throughout its history. Engagingly and passionately written, it is clearly a labour of love, and has the effect - at least as far as this particular reader is concerned - of repeatedly reminding you of why the Aussie game is so unique and so great. I've also read the AFL's official history book, published earlier this year, which is OK, but if I had to chose a single book that provides the best, most detailed, and most authoritative overview of footy's history I'd unhesitatingly go for Devaney's work. The fact that it's just the first in a projected four volume set makes me drool with anticipation already. If you love footy, and want to know about its historical impact in all corners of Australia, then buy this book.
