Printed: 32 pages, 9" x 7", perfect binding, full-color interior ink Description:A playful story of a child and her imaginary friends conquering the big kids' playground. I wrote this book with my dad when I was 5. Note: This beautiful children's book truly reflects the mind and the world of a child. Though conceived in the middle of 3 hurricanes that caused Josie and her family to lose their home, it's not an adult's story of disaster. Instead, it's a child's story of overcoming challenges through imagination and play. As a writer and educator, Michael Baumgarten, M.Ed. helps children (and adults) enhance their communication skills. Josie is Amazing ... This book is Amazing ... and her storytelling website is Amazing ... so amazing that I can't stop sharing them with children and adults.
This book is really special. With the help of her father, six year old Josie has magically appeared in this book. Her voice, ideas, and playfulness hop around each fun-filled page with childlike innocence and energy.
The kids in class love this playful story, and so do all the teachers in my school. Josie and her story has motivated us all to play storytelling games together.

My son got this amazing children's book for a birthday present and has wanted me to read it to him every night since. After two months, we am still discovering fun things that Josie and her dad hid in this treasure. I like how we can read it together and create own own stories about the Baby Monsters. They also made a coloring calendar that I'm bought for my son as a Christmas present.
Incredible is the first word that springs to mind when thinking about the book My Baby Monsters and I went to the park. Both the story and the illustrations are so imaginative and beautiful.
The story - told from a kid’s point of view - really captures the voice and imagination of a child perfectly. It is about Baby Monsters (imaginary friends) playing in the park with a little girl, the obstacles they encounter, and how, with the help of the baby monsters, she overcomes them.
This book really is amazing. My son (five years old) has made me read it to him every night for the past two weeks, and my daughter (eight) always seems to be in the room when I’m reading it to him... but I don’t mind. This is now my favorite children’s book too.
In addition to the playful nature of this book, I think that the baby monsters really can help children confront their own fears and expand their boundaries. The story is written with humor and respect for the child’s perspective. And each of the baby monsters has its own personality that seems to reflect a different side/part of my son’s and daughter’s pesonality and imagination. I really don’t know how they captured him so well.
In addition to the story, this book is truly a work of art. The illustrations wonderfully underscores the story without overpowering it. The downloadable preview of this book doesn’t do it justice. I would gladly hang these pictures on my wall.
This is a very unique book. It was written by a father and daughter (five year old girl) and perhaps that is what makes it so special. The father explains this process in a heartfelt introduction and also provides suggestions to help others create their own stories.
We really enjoy My Baby Monsters and I went to the park and hope that the Baumgarten’s will publish more baby monster adventures in the future. I highly recommend it both for the story and for the art work.
As this is their only book, I am glad to have discovered that the Josephine (the little girl) is now writing and putting new short stories on the Web every day at mybabymonsters.com.
