Description:

HARDCOVER. A fairy tale for adults. A young, mysterious girl named Tojet appears in a convent-run school one day. Two teachers, Sister Elizabeth and oddly-named Merkit Terjit, take her under their care. But is she a lost, imaginative orphan or a time traveler with fairy powers? How does she know who Merkit is and how he was named? Tragedy drives her away, but she returns as a young, beautiful woman, far more mature than she should be. She shows Merkit a world of obsession and dark fairies. He can't help falling in love with her, but what about the monastic vows he's about to take? Can he fight the temptations that surround him?

I cannot recommend the book enough. It is foremost a faerytale. But be warned, this is no light fable. Anyone brave enough to open the first page of this book will forever feel acquainted to Tojet and Merki, so well written are these characters. The spirits, the fey and other folk are portrayed with a mythological depth remeniscent of Neil Gaiman, without the smugness that often accompanies his researched materials. This is one of those books you hate to put down, and go mad waiting to get back to. Not since Poppy Z. Brite and Kathe Koja have I cared so much about the characters in a story.

All in all a fine tale. I truly hope the author returns to the worlds, and the mythology (and perhaps even the characters) in Tojet again someday.
