Description:Ganvie is a lake town in Benin, situated on Lake Nokoué. It is some 8 km from Abomey-Calavi (the second largest city in Benin, in terms of population) and around 25 km as the crow flies from Cotonou (the commercial capital of Benin). Waterway transport in Ganvie is a mode of life and not just a means of movement. For example, the pirogues are used as places where people can take a rest.There is no transport choice; pirogues are the only option. The document shows through the use of photographs and texts the different aspects of ife in this lake-dwelling community. The author of the document is Mr. Placide Badji, who is a Benin citizen.
