DON'T YOU DARE SPEND MONEY ON THIS BOOK!! [ No Rating ] 2 Dec 2007 (updated 2 Dec 2007)

Yes...I did...and I regret it. The book is of no use whatsoever to students of TSD, SBD or MDK. It identifes no one, no thing, no place. It has no narrative, no explainations, no comments. It doesn't even have copyright info or a by-line. It is nothing more than a collection of 'pictures from my trip'. There are several points you need to know so you'll know NOT to buy this book: First...you'll see nothing of use to you as a student. The photos of training are poor at best, and those at the MDK do not show anything useful or informative. Second...many of the photos are simply of places the tourists typically go...and are photos of either ambiguious background (say like the street with all the pubs) or of known and already photo documented places (the Royal Palace, the DMZ, etc.). Finally, the 'grave scene' photos are morbid and cheesy and nothing more than an ego feed to the people in them. The fact they posed by the Grandmaster's grave is more a statement of their ego....and a rather profound statement of their disrespect for the dead. Shame on them...and shame on H.C. Hwang for allowing it. But then...I'm sure he was well paid for the adventure of taking them on a tour of Korea and showing off his father's final resting place.

Makes my skin crawl.

Buiral mounds [ No Rating ] 19 Nov 2007
I am disappointed that your books main selling point is honorable Grandmaster Hwang Kee's Burial mound. That is a private, personal and intimate thing that should not be promoted as the reason to buy your book. As a practioner and personal student of the Hwang family for over 25 years I am offended by this attempt to profit from a personal, private part of the Hwang family. I suggest you promote your book as a pictorial of the historic 60th anniversary and images of Korea, and not to highlight someone’s death mound. Imagine the roles reversed, would you like someone to profit from pictures of your parents gravesite?
