English, RELIGIOUS TRACT SOCIETY London 1895

This book was originally published under the title "Road to the North Pole Second Series." In the first series, a sketch is given of the voyages of Captain Hall. No expedition was ever better equipped none ever started with higher hopes & anticipations, & few have fallen so far short of accomplishing the ends hoped for. …

The Jeannette left San Francisco for a voyage to the Far North in 1879. Captain De Long commanded this Arctic expedition, and his narrative is so vivid that we shall hope to give much of the story in his own words, his journals being full of adventure & remarkable experiences
