Description:

Acupressure and acupuncture have been proven effective for relieving diarrhea. For example, acupuncture has good effects for the treatment of diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), for infantile diarrhea, for diarrhea in persons with HIV/AIDS, and for E. coli diarrhea. For preventing diarrhea, cause factors of diarrhea are analyzed, and prevention methods and acupuncture points (acupoints) are recommended. For healing of diarrhea, methods and time-tested acupoint prescriptions are provided, including those for acupressure, acupuncture, moxibustion, and auricular acupuncture. Different types of diarrhea and therapeutic principles are described. Acupoint prescriptions from some ancient traditional Chinese medicine classics are translated, such as the well-known classic Compendium of Acupuncture and Moxibustion (Jizhou Yang, Zhen Jiu Da Cheng, 1601 A.D.). In addition, scientific studies about acupuncture treatments for diarrhea are collected.
