Just amazing [ No Rating ] 1 Apr 2008
As always this writer does not disappoint when you open the cover of her book. She shows you deep the the bones of her psyche and the way she views all things in the place we call earth. From the hurts of her past to the hopes of tomorrow her words will spellbind you and show you all things that you wish to see, as well as things you don't. From page one if you're like me you will be enthralled and just completely enamored by the verbs and nouns arranged in a way that only Jamie Hatfield can do. Both skillfully written and presented, the works within these pages will provoke your thoughts and touch your heart. Simply amazing.

The book's cover is very expressive.
It plunges human being in the ambiguity that represent black coulor
on the one hand, and high meditations that reflect the iconographic
picture on the other hand.

The book presented is very interesting!
In first, it presents the bond that units the being --- the autor with her past filed with entities kindly or unhealthy that govern her life.
The nostalgic relations that she evokes at the time of change of his vital place put in in front of metaphysic méditations that justifie considerably the title of the book DEAD IN ROME, the book's center of interest. The other people's look in his diversity permits her to lay a relationship ethic. From dream's world to self-critical, developing a phenomenology of spirit, Jamie HATFIELD paints the neing and the human condition. IT'S AN EXCITING BOOK!!!

Even though poetry is not really a subject I am all that familiar with, this book contains poems that everyone can relate to. As with all poetry (and books), some poems speak to me more than others do, but all in all, it's a very good read. Thanks!
This book touches on the deep feelings [ No Rating ] 19 Mar 2008
This book touches on the deep feelings of the author and of the reader. It wraps around the feelings of love and of loss like a snuggling cat that wakes you in the early morning. It is eclectically monistic in pulling together aspects of life’s drama that many wish not to see.

Dark and yet clean. A collection of powerfully constructed poems that rip at the imagination. Well worth the read an excellent book!
Pain/bread [ No Rating ] 18 Mar 2008
We do need it: pain/bread....These stark/bare confessions of the soul and heart....
Jamie does it very well: Ms Joni Mitchell before "Hejira": a woman's storm rising to the surface, and thrashing a sea's shore....
We do need it: and always will; a male, perhaps i, would seek deep understanding/control, but Jamie! these stark catharsis' hunt you down beyond all mirrors: beyond the saviour's influence, the need to forgive/forget, and again my femme-male is at a meeting with "Death" sitting on the fence where the graveyard hides from the street...

....Learnt to love u, Jamie, like i loved joni mitchell....

These are beautiful, intimate poems, and the speaker reveals detailed commentary about love and pain. The poems discuss how personal history bleeds into the present, and how we can move in the present, regardless of our past. Though the poems discuss pain, the resulting emotion is freedom, the freedom to move on, and love again.

Thank you for writing these tender pieces!

As a fellow poet, I can appreciate others who can lay themselves out there through verse. The poetry (in this volume) is raw; the verses drip with deep, dark emotions, which the title itself seems to suggest. The poet has gone deeper inside herself and pulled out those things which many of us have felt. I get the connection, and hopefully others will, too.

I decided to take a look at this book of poetry and I have to admit I sighed with exasperation when I realized that it came off as another angst-filled hobbyist poetry book; but then I hit page 131, Reflections...I was taken aback and had to read it twice.

After being thoroughly shocked by the true depth of the poetry and the idea that this woman touched the very face of night and was able to express it so, I had to re-read the bits she had laid out in her preview. Looking between the lines I was surprised to find a kind of quiet darkness lingering there, something waiting to be disturbed amongst the ashes fallen at her feet.

The presentation is wonderfully dry, in that it will not deter your focus from the heart of the matter, so long as you are willing to read what is and isn't branded in ink.

I would think anyone could be both disturbed and entranced by the eidolon Jamie has presented in her latest book.
Wow...

The poems that I have read so far all seem to have the same effect, they seem to tear out my heart. You truly have a talent for making the reader feel as though they are the ones your poetry is written about. Wonderfully done!

From what I've read of these poems they are very original, creative, and quite dark and deep. It's good to read some poetry that's not just a rehash of work seen a thousand times before. Well done!

Although the subjects aren't really that new (alienation, mind pain, loneliness, abuse), the choice of form is really what's interesting. It has a classical form, yet there are no rhymes. All in all, a pretty decent read.
Certainly original writing! [ No Rating ] 17 Mar 2008
I would love to see more, but what you have here is really well done! I like the format of the poems and all the things included! Very well done, new and fresh to the eyes, wonderfully mastered! I love the writing. Very deep and I can connect to it in some sort of creative way.

You have a wonderful gift! I love it!!
