Description:

This is an older, less expensive version of Ripe Chokecherry Moon since it is published by me. The newest version, which is basically the same novel, but has a larger global distribution is for sale on my site at www.lulu.com/lokiloki. (content #3323925)The cover is slightly different. Chokecherry Moon is A love story, rich in the pageantry of the fur trade era. It is a story of a family connected by murder, revenge and passion, but mainly this is the story about two people from two different worlds who find love in the Minnesota territory in early l800's. The novel explores the life of the independent trader, Francois Benoit and Merewyn MacKenna, kidnapped heiress to MacKenna Furs. It also deals with the fur trade wars between Hudson Bay, North West and American Fur, and it explores American Indian lore. Secondary characters, Jean Batiste, Joseph, fussy Kenneth Mackenna and Poor Eyes, bring humor to the Minnesota wilderness.

I read the entire book in one sitting, not because it lacked anything, quite the opposite, I simply could not step away from it.

I thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to reading more.

Marlene Breakfield from Mystique books recently had this to say about Ripe Chokecherry Moon by Trish St. John
"Merewyn MacKenna travels to America after the death of her mother to escape a forced marriage. Her greedy, evil stepfather is forcing her to marry so that he can get his hands on her inheritance, MacKenna Furs. To get to America, Merewyn poses as one of the King's Brides, women who travel to America and are bid on by traders to become their wives. However, Merewyn hopes to escape becomeing a bride by finding her uncle who is her legal guardian and can help her straighten out her inheritance.
Once in America, Merewyn meets a handsome fur trader, Francois Benoit. Francois is busy trying to keep his business afloat and trying to keep his mischievious brothers out of trouble. Francois doesn't have time for women but can't resist stealing a kiss after he saves Merewyn from drowning. Unfortunately, Francois' brothers decide he needs a woman, and after a night of drink, steal Merewyn for Francois. Merewyn and Francois become embroiled with each other and face many hardships and dangers together.
Ripe Chokecherry Moon is an enjoyable historical romance, which has a unique and interesting setting and plot. There is only one place in the novel where the historical accuracy didn't ring true. The use of the word "germ" and cleanliness by an English woman or the early 1800's, when treating wounds is highly unlikely. Other than this point this book is well researched, and I learned a lot about the furt trade in the early l9th centruy. Although Merewyn does act childishly on occasion and Francois is hardheaded quite frequently, they slowly grow to love and accept one another.
All and all, Ripe Chokecherry Moon is a great first effort from Ms. St. John and I hope to read more of her works in the future." Marlene Breakfield gave this novel 4 and 1/2 moons out of 5 I do not know how the 6 stars showed up on the top. pj

Ripe Chokecherry Moon is not your run of the mill historical romance! The author must have done a great deal of research and it shows from the first page to the last. The cover art is beautiful and fitting for the tale of the trapper and the unconventional heroine who becomes his wife. The supporting characters are well rounded and the story flows like water down hill. One of the better books I've read off of POD!
