Much like his comic book Golden Ashtray, Pirooz Kalayeh's musical opus is a work in progress. Rather, you get the sense that what you're hearing is what is coming together for the first time for the musicians involved. Sometimes Pirooz holds the reigns, and sometimes the reigns hold him, as a bevy of volunteer and guest artists make their mark and sometimes their debut on the record.
The end result is fun, sleepy, lovely, loud and rockin' out, all subject to the mood of the recording session or the energy levels of the players. It's a window into the heart of a group of friends and their desire to make something beautiful.
On a personal note, I played the djembe and sang on a few of the songs, and my Sundays spent recording with Slipshod are like church for me. I enter the apartment with a heavy soul sometimes, but I always leave tapping my foot and humming a ditty.
