Author CD Moulton shares an ability to build settings and worlds just like the great pulp SF serial authors like Edgar Rice Burroughs. The language Moulton uses is quick and spare. He has a good sense of discribing the setting and situation in a very few words and making you visualize it. Also like the pulps there is a good sense of problem solving and discovery within the alien settings.
The deeper I got into the book the more involved I got in the characters and plot.
I think a large range of ages can read and enjoy Flight of the Maita, I am middle aged but I think a pre-teen would get an even bigger kick out of it.
This book is part of a series, yet it stands alone. I enjoyed reading it and I will continue reading in the series.
