Description:When Maura Knight, a disillusioned ex-reality television producer, turned waitress, accidentally captures an after hours attack on her video camera at the restaurant where she works, she promptly posts the video online and her life gets complicated. Suddenly Maura is catapulted into a life on the run from the powerful forces who are working their way down a short hit list that includes her name. With a small group that wants to fight back, Maura finds herself in the position of reluctant leader of an underground group of vigilante journalists who are working against the clock to expose the corruption that may take them all down, if their messy love triangles and Maura’s need for redemption don’t do them in first. Set in the gritty, downtown buildings and alleyways of behind-the-scenes Los Angeles, FEED, takes us on a journey to discover the dirty truth, through Maura’s unflinching accounts of sex, lies, industry ties, love, lust and redemption. From behind the scenes of "scripted" reality TV to the dirty street of LA, Maura is a heroine for her generation. she doesn't always do the right thing, but this reader forgives her her faults because it seems as though the most important thing, in her and the character's mind, is to get people talking. That one act, I hope this new writer will accomplish for years to come.
I appreciate her brevity and the fact that she doesn't use words that are "ladylike". Knight goes for the jugular and doesn't hold back. With a stream of conscience style that would challenge the likes of authors such as Palahniuk and Vonnegut, Knight takes us on a journey through right and wrong; truth and consequence and sex and sexier...and all with a whip for a tongue and the wit of someone who's seen the dark, hard truths of the real world.
Thanks for sharing this tale with me. I'm def. going to tell everyone I know to grab this book, while it's still an "indie"!

Maura has a unique perspective of the world as she describes that almost everyone seems to be sleepwalking through life. The language of the book is so sharp that compels the reader to see the story to its end (or rush to it for that matter).
Maura’s journey is excitingly strange and unexpected, and from the second half of the book the story veers into a seductive ticking bomb. Maura’s pragmatic outlook on life makes of the most dramatic moments utterly captivating. I couldn’t help but feel included in this cynical generation as Maura dwelled, at her best, to change today’s society.
Even with the sensuality of such a detailed account of her personal history, there is definitely something sweet about this soul-searching urban tale. Despite the fact that Maura is the one opening up to her reader, it is impossible not to feel that we are opening up ourselves, as she pulls out our most intimate thoughts with her provocative narrative. FEED is definitely a cathartic experience. I highly recommend it!!

Her isolation comes from having to shut out all of the bad things that happen to people everyday, and the only swan song those people can hope for is a casual news story on CNN's ticker. It's the same isolation that we all experience despite of/because of our ever-growing connectedness through the internet, phones, 24 hour news, and Reality TV.
Maura opens herself up so totally that I found myself squirming in my seat several times during the book, usually because I have had similar thoughts and won't let myself hold on to them because I feel guilty for thinking them too loudly. But I want to hear her say them, and she does, and then more.
The humor in this book cannot be overlooked. Despite the often dark subject matter, Maura's humanity makes many tough passages palatable through her funny insights. There are several chapters that are downright hilarious, and I have to admit to stealing quite a few quotes from them already.
Lastly, but definitely not the least, the story itself is great. Before you know it, you're racing through, tearing at the pages to see what happens next.
All I can say is, I agree with another reviewer on this site: the only bad thing about this book is that it ends. I would have loved to stay with these characters everyday and have Maura tell me all of her most intimate thoughts. I can't recommend it enough!

And yes, I know for many, you are know by A*non on Myspace or now as Maura Knight, author of FEED. For me you will always me Bea. Your book arrived yesterday. It was here waiting for me when I came home—arms full of groceries and a collection of poems by Jorge Luis Borges. I wanted to begin reading your words right away but building obligations got in the way.
This morning, as my eyes cleared away the burliness of sleep I reach up, pulled tangible proof of you to me and opened your life. Seventy pages later I was reluctant to leave my warm sheet. I find comfort in the flow of your language. As you write about horrors, tragedy’s, odd anecdotes, moments of happiness and unadulterated ecstasy—what is consistent, besides your characters need for coffee, is the beauty of your words.
Life calls so I leave you laying on crumpled sheets until I can return.

I just finished you book a few minutes ago. It was a consuming read. My only disappointment was that it ended. I think most people who pick up a copy of your book will be pleased, as they allow themselves to be caught—spellbound, by this tale you have woven.

The first time I sped through it and parts of it felt like a hurried autobiography with all of the gritty reality that was thrown in. The second time was to reabsorb all of the details that compelled me to keep reading it to begin with. I know that all writers draw from their life for inspiration for any story whether it's fiction or not, but this tale had an undercurrent of seedy urban punk mashed with semi-current events that made it seem like real life in the re-telling. It felt more real than any reality show ever made me feel.
I couldn't help but be moved by Mo's experiences and that is the singularly most important part of enjoying any story. Mere words can't describe how well I think Maura Knight captured that 'real life' feel. Never before have I felt so compelled to protect or to reach out and comfort any character in any book before. I can honestly say that Maura's account of the events that led up to the climax of the story caused me to feel a whole gamut of emotions that I haven't felt in long time, especially from reading a book!
I would like to encourage her to continue writing if that is something she is considering. I for one look forward to reading more by her as I believe she has a unique talent for realism that has been missing from most forms of art in our time.
