This is a delightful book for children aged 3 - 8. It is beautifully drawn and touchingly scripted. The text is a large simple style for young readers. The story is fun about imagination and landscape. It's also very much about a father's attempt to provide answers to a young enquiring mind. I'm ordering a few more for the other young people I know. It is also worth getting this book for the ironic publishing touches which will appeal to the grown ups!
A tender and inventive book

Petunia Petalbum's Papa has a quirky imagination and the talent to bring it to life in wonderful drawings. A tender and humorous rapport between father and daughter shines from the pages of this little book. For instance, when Petunia wonders about the meaning of a road sign: "HEAVY PLANT CROSSING", Papa explains: it means "Watch Out! Huge walking plants cross the road near here...far too deep in thought to notice the other road users or the zebra crossing." The charming illustration shows a giant sunflower (wearing an "I loves bees" badge") failing to notice a rearing zebra as it dreamily crosses the road. Dem Stimson is a highly original cartoonist and story-teller who acquired a faithful following for his hand-drawn blog, (Guild of Ghostwriters) and who deserves much wider recognition. Buy this book for your children, grandchildren, nephews, nieces - it's a perfect gift for stimulating their imagination to see stories in even the most commonplace things.
