In 'Tom Corven' we have all the excitement and suspense of King Lear shouting at the howling winds on the moors. Indeed, the similarities and contrast between the two stories are worth making. Both are a psychological study of man. In 'King Lear', Lear has to forget the man he was and come to terms with the man he is. In 'Tom Corven', of course, it's exactly the opposite. In contrast,Lear has most of his life behind him, whereas Tom has most of it ahead of him.
On the more contemporary level, Paul Story has an eye for descriptive detail in landscape that reminds me of the sort of relish found for the same in stories like John Buchan's 'The Thirty-Nine Steps' or 'Greenmantle.' It becomes apparent as 'Tom Corven' unfolds that the author is intimately acquainted with the terrain which he describes right down to the tiniest detail.
Tom Corven would make a great accompaniment as a long leisurely read on holiday.

A truly enjoyable "read". I followed the story twice a week by podcast and eagerly awaited each espisode to ease the drive to work. A well crafted story with depth and details cleverly narrated to craft a picture.
Really disappointed when it finished.
Looking forward to Paul Story's next book.

First the podcast, THEN the hardcopy? Paul Story is a leader in the future of publication, serving up a tasty appetizer in the form of Tom Corven, as a part of what I am sure will be a filling meal.
This is a real quality piece of work. With many twists and turns, it keeps you hooked throughout. Paul Story has a style all of his own, and Tom Corven is a blend of adventure tale, mystery, thriller and science fiction with enormous atmosphere. Highly recommended.
Paul's e-book was one of the first e-books that I listened to. I could not have asked for a better introduction! From the description of the raging storm at the begining he weaves a story that builds to a superb climax. This is one talented writer who grips you throughout the story he tells. This is a good story (in both respects)!
Well, there's not many books where I can truthfully say I read from beginning to end in two days! This book is well structured and written. It's a difficult book to put down because of the need to find out where the characters are going next, but the short chapters would make it easy to find a break if you have stronger will than mine. I still feel the chill of the wind in my bones...
Tom Corven is an intriguing tale that is hard to categorize, as it progresses from one kind of book to another as the narrative goes on. While it may start out as a typical, "It was a dark and stormy night", kind of story, it doesn't stop there and I was really surprised at where it went.
Paul manages some classic storytelling with rich prose and great imagination.

I feel very fortunate to have stumbled upon Tom Corven while distracting myself on the internet late one evening.
Paul Story has that excellent ability to present a fable like story that eventually grows to a tale of epic proportions (much like J.R.R. Tolkien or Pualo Coelho's "The Alchemist"). He has a unique angle to story-telling that I cant put my finger on and it takes me back to a time when novels realy evoked something in me. I dont have much time for anything these days (other than studying) but I made quite an effort to make time for Tom Corven. Ive done that with only a handful of books. I am very much anticipating reading his next installment 10 Downing Street.

A great start for a new series.
Most of all I liked the characters. Their motivations and actions felt real and interesting. I want a brain in my characters. Tom Corven provided.
The plot has a nice mix of drama, mystery and action. And ever so often new facts are revealed that give a whole new angle to the story.
Can't wait for the next book.
