Description:

During the seven decades it took to construct the U.S. Capitol (1790-1860), 50% of the workforce were slaves. Among these was Philip Reid, the slave who supervised the bronze casting of the Statue of Freedom, now atop the Capitol dome. This is the story of the building of the city of Washington as well as the Capitol building. This story is told in an illustrated lecture by the Architectural Historian of the Capitol.
