In the late 21st century, neighborhood snipers regularly pick off salesmen, automation runs amuck, and the resurrected dead walk the streets. Now wisecracking hacker Ralph Crocker finds himself “wanted” by a cyborg named Death, by an organ-stealing gang of monstrosities (who want his body), and even by genetically modified government agents who want to kill him. Ralph discovers the key to his survival lies in locating the inventor who is transforming not only Ralph’s perceptions but reality itself. During Ralph’s recurrent journeys into an emerging shadow world, he befriends “Alice” — who may not be real. Joining forces, the two discover they must risk a face-to-face confrontation with the godlike man transforming them.
